LeanKit Kanban allows organizations to define custom Activities that can be assigned to Lanes within each Boards. These Activities can represent functional areas, departments, responsibilities, or whatever the organization would like to categorize. For instance, many larger organization may have specialized departments for QA Testing, Performance Testing, Business Analysis, Code Deployments, and etc. These departments may be shared across all the projects active within the organization. Determining the work load for each of these departments across all the project may be a difficult looking at the project Boards individually. In LeanKit Kanban, these departments can be associated to the Lanes for which they are associated. These associations are then used to provide metrics on the amount of Work In Progress for each of these departments over time. These metric allow managers to ensure that work load is leveled and that no departments are exceeding their capacity.
Because Activities are assigned at the Organization level, the management of these Activities can be found in the Organization's Administration area. To access this area, click on the top level Administration tab. Once in the main Administration area, click the Activity Types menu item.
To add an activity type, enter the Activity Type name into the specified field and click the Create Activity Type button. The Activity Type will be added to the list of Activity Types.
To remove an Activity Type, click the Delete icon associated with the Activity Type that you wish to remove. This action will allow you to specify a different Activity Type that you wish to replace the removed type. If you do not select a different Activity Type, any Lane associated to the removed Activity Type will no longer have a Activity Type associated to it.
With a Board in edit mode, access a Lane Options dialog for the Lane you wish to associate to the Activity Type.
